3 myths stopping you prioritising your wellbeing
You’d love to be able to take some time during your day for yourself, but maybe you believe self care has to be at least an hour on the yoga mat. Perhaps you’ve grown up thinking it’s all about luxurious bubble baths or long days at the spa.
The stories we tell ourselves about what we can or can’t do with regards to self care usually come from childhood, so let’s bust some of those stories with the top 3 ‘myths’ I hear from clients.
Myth 1 - self care is just being lazy
Self care isn’t about lazing around doing absolutely nothing.
It’s about slowing down and resting.
Ensuring you schedule in time for self care is just as important as booking in to see your dentist. This could be 5 minutes if that’s all you feel you have right now to do something for yourself daily.
Myth 2 - self care is something you have to earn
I’ll rest when I...
Using self care as a reward is a sure fire way to burning out.
Including self care in your day gives you the energy and nourishment to do the other things on your to do list.
Get the self care done FIRST thing. Not last as a reward. Starting a morning routine is a great way to ensure you do exactly this.
Myth 3 - self care means choosing between myself over others
Its ironic that we sacrifice our wellbeing for others, yet we need to practice self care to be able to look after other people.
Its not a case of me or them, its about taking time, even just a few moments a day for yourself.
There’s nothing like feeling full of joy and energy when spending time with loved ones.
So refuel by doing daily self care practices.
It’s an important part of creating a healthy and happy environment for the life you want.
