Break free of the diet culture, a Wellbeing Coaches guide.

You’re over a month into the new year, have you tried changing your diet?

Did it stick?

Are you feeling frustrated?

Have you actually gained weight?!!!

As a Yoga Teacher and Wellbeing Coach, I see clients come to me with the same struggles, and it became clear that a deeper, more sustainable solution was needed.

Diets don’t work because they aren’t sustainable. You might see results but then they tank or you just end up back where you were when you started, and possibly a little heavier for it.

Any new habit starts in the mind and needs to become a consistent part of your life for it to be experienced long term.

*Mindset

You have to identify as BEING the healthy, fit, toned, skinny (enter your word of choice here) person to BECOME that person.

It’s like when people with poor money skills win the lottery, a lot of them end up broke and sometimes worse off than before their win. This is because their mindset was still that of the poor broke person.

When wanting to lose weight most people say something like:

‘When I HAVE lost the weight, I will BE happy and then I can DO all the things I want to do’

This is all about flipping the script, instead of having first you BE first, try this instead:

‘I am becoming happy and healthy’

*Consistency

This is NOT about being perfect, it’s about showing up as best as you can.

On the days you have 100% to give, you show up 100%. On the days you feel low and you only have 30% you still show up 100% because you gave all you could - that 30% is actually 100%.

When I get clients started with this part we look at their current routine and lifestyle behaviours and see what is a constant.

For example this could be the time they eat, go to bed and wake up.

From there we create a routine, this could be a morning routine with a set of 3 different breakfast ideas to choose from. Eating at the same times to create a healthy rhythm and focusing on easing out sugar and introducing more protein.

It may seem simple (this is good as you will stick to it more easily) but by having a set routine you create consistency and this breaks you free.

With more protein in your diet, you’ll be fuller for longer. Meaning you can wave goodbye to sugar and carb cravings.

By working with an intermittent fasting schedule such as 8am-8pm you’re less likely to overeat or overindulge.

During the most sugar heavy food season aka Halloween to New Years, I tracked my weight and actually LOST weight while eating foods I love. Without the guilt, shame or extra weight! I shared part of this on Instagram, go check it out HERE.
