Wellbeing, the full circle of health, wealth and happiness.

Health is WEALTH

Wellbeing means - the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy. BUT why does it have to be or, why not have ALL 3?

A quote I heard recently that really landed for me is - the highest form of wealth is freedom of time in good health.

To have control over how you spend your time AND being able to enjoy it.

I know I want to arrive at retirement in my best shape so I can continue to enjoy life.

But how can we do this when we have an either or mindset?

Why do we struggle with becoming our best self?

Mindset is a huge factor here.

We tend to see working out and self care as indulgent. Something to be done once EVERYTHING else is completed.

Yet this is backwards because to be able to do everything else you need to feel your best.

This is where the saying ‘put your oxygen mask on BEFORE assisting others’ really comes into context.

We all know why this is true, but we guilt and shame ourselves for doing it.

This is why a morning routine in whatever shape or form can really support you.

Even just a few minutes for yourself can have a massive impact in how you feel and perform for the rest of your day.

How often do you not do the self care practice when you get to the end of the day because you feel too tired to do it?

Doing the self care practice first thing gets it done and out of the way AND you feel better for it.

We don’t pay attention to tracking.

Tracking nowadays is so easy - you’ve got your smart phone, smart watch, smart rings and clip on devices that tell you your steps, heartrate and calories burnt.

Yet we don’t pay enough attention to the numbers.

We tend to over estimate what we are doing in terms of working towards our goals and under estimate the impact of the rewards we treat ourselves to.

Recently I’ve been reading The Psychology of Money and author Morgan Housel describes exercise like being rich!

When you exercise you feel like you’re just been paid, you feel abundant and want to treat yourself, so you do without checking if you can actually afford to.

When treating yourself to a big meal or your favourite snack, we tend to over estimate the calorific value of doing so and inevitably wipe out the exercise.

But to feel wealthy is to understand the benefits of not having the reward unless its of value to do so.

For example, my husband works at a desk all day yet figured he moved around enough to focus on enjoying his daily recommended calories (approx 2500).

Recently he invested in a smart watch which highlighted how few steps he took throughout the day. Meaning he only really needed to consume his basal metabolic rate calories (approx 2000).

Because he over estimated his exercise and under estimated the amount of food he was eating he wasn’t seeing the results he wanted.

Without a coach or understanding of how to track this can keep you stuck and not see results.
